People in Mekong Delta Celebrate Traditional Tet Culture with Coconut Delicacies

Ben Tre: People in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, known as the land of coconuts, are celebrating the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday by embracing traditional cultural practices. At home, locals utilize the province’s renowned coconut produce to craft candied coconut ribbons in a spectrum of colors. Tet is also a time for making banh tet, a cylindrical glutinous rice cake, where families come together to clean dong leaves, dye glutinous rice with magenta leaves, wrap the cake, and patiently wait for it to cook for 10-12 hours.

According to Vietnam News Agency, after preparing these traditional delicacies, residents of Ben Tre engage in a variety of local activities. These include visiting flower gardens, participating in folk games, and joining local festivals, all of which contribute to the festive atmosphere of the Tet holiday.
