Phu Quoc Airport Expansion Approved for APEC 2027

Phu Quoc:The Ministry of Construction has approved adjustments to the detailed planning of Phu Quoc International Airport in An Giang province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision extending to 2050. This plan includes enhancements to support the APEC Economic Leaders' Week in 2027, focusing on security, safety, and organizational aspects.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the adjusted plan involves adding and revising internal service roads and creating a parking area for ground service vehicles and equipment east of the VIP/general aviation terminal. The taxiway system will be extended to synchronize with existing runways, adding parallel, connecting, and rapid-exit taxiways to improve aircraft handling.

For the apron area, the plan includes an apron in front of Terminal 2 and expansion of the existing apron to accommodate about 42 aircraft parking positions. Additionally, a new apron with 45 parking positions will be constructed between Terminal 1 and the VIP/general aviation terminal, with further expansion anticipated by 2050.

Supporting facilities will include a 7.2-hectare aviation fuel supply facility and a 30.4-hectare aircraft maintenance area in the airport's north. A 51-hectare complex for hotels, commercial services, and offices will be developed to the south, alongside a 12.6-hectare aviation training facility.

The plan also includes a Level 9 emergency firefighting station, a 1.7-hectare firefighting training area, and bomb and mine disposal areas at both runway ends. Phu Quoc International Airport is expected to require 1,040.43 hectares of land, managed by civil aviation authorities, the military, and joint usage.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will coordinate with the provincial People's Committee to manage and implement the plan, integrating it into local planning and ensuring sufficient capacity for future airport development.
