Phu Quoc’s APEC 2027 Venue to Feature Innovative Design

Phu Quoc:Phu Quoc is developing a major complex to host the APEC Economic Leaders' Week in 2027, which will include the APEC Convention and Exhibition Centre and a multipurpose performance venue.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the design consultancy for these facilities is provided by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), a US architecture firm known for iconic structures like Dubai's Burj Khalifa and New York's One World Trade Centre. SOM is collaborating with Sun Group to ensure the project aligns with Phu Quoc's unique terrain and geography, featuring outdoor public spaces that connect with nature for sustainable development.

The architecture of the complex is inspired by local mythology, with the convention centre symbolizing the balance between land and sea, drawing from the legend of Dragon Father Lac Long Quan and Fairy Mother Au Co. The performance venue reflects the strength and energy of Lac Long Quan. APEC Park will serve as a central gathering space to promote dialogue and unity.

SOM is leveraging a team of global experts and international consultants to apply best practices from major venues worldwide. The project aims to be a world-class destination, offering technologically advanced, high-performance, and environmentally adaptive facilities.

The complex's technical systems are specifically designed for Phu Quoc's coastal conditions, featuring an 81-meter column-free span structure and high-capacity systems for stable and efficient operation. By integrating summit-grade security and sustainable architecture, Sun Group and Phu Quoc aim to set a new standard for global events.

The project is expected to boost long-term economic growth and highlight Phu Quoc's cultural identity, positioning the island as a premier destination for diplomatic and MICE events.
