PM Requests Aligning Disaster Preparedness with Centennial Strategic Goals

Hanoi: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked for disaster prevention and control to be firmly aligned with Vietnam's two centennial strategic goals, stressing a proactive and people-centred approach as the country faces increasingly complex and extreme natural hazards. Chairing a hybrid national conference on disaster response as head of the National Civil Defence Steering Committee in Hanoi on April 1, the PM highlighted the increasingly complex and extreme nature of natural disasters, warning that they pose mounting risks to lives, infrastructure and socio-economic development.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of integrating disaster risk management with the nation's long-term strategic objectives. This integration aims to ensure sustainable development while safeguarding the population and critical infrastructure from the escalating threats posed by natural disasters.

The conference brought together various stakeholders to discuss strategies and measures for enhancing Vietnam's disaster resilience. Participants underscored the need for comprehensive planning and collaboration at all governmental levels to effectively mitigate the impacts of disasters and to safeguard socio-economic progress.

Prime Minister Chinh's call to action reflects a growing recognition of the necessity to incorporate disaster preparedness into broader development plans, ensuring that Vietnam can achieve its centennial goals while minimizing the adverse effects of natural calamities.
