Hanoi: A new project to strengthen Vietnam’s capacity to prevent and respond to domestic violence was launched in Hanoi on November 25. The initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam and funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), will run through 2025-2026.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the project aims to enhance the existing framework and support mechanisms to better address domestic violence issues in Vietnam. By engaging with local communities and stakeholders, the initiative seeks to build a more robust system for prevention and response, thus ensuring a safer environment for individuals at risk.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized the importance of this collaboration, highlighting the need for comprehensive strategies and resources to effectively tackle domestic violence. The partnership with UNFPA and KOICA is seen as a critical step in driving long-term change and ensuring sustainable solutions.
The UNFPA in Vietnam expressed its commitment to supporting the project, noting that domestic violence is a significant barrier to achieving gender equality and social development. KOICA’s funding will facilitate the implementation of various programs and activities designed to empower communities and enhance the capacity of local authorities.
The project is expected to create significant impact by 2026, with a focus on education, advocacy, and the development of effective intervention strategies. Stakeholders are optimistic that this joint effort will lead to meaningful progress in the fight against domestic violence in Vietnam.
