Quang Ngai Steps Up Crackdown on High-Risk Fishing Vessels Amid Anti-IUU Fishing Drive

Quang ngai: Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai People's Committee Do Tam Hien on May 25 inspected local efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in several coastal localities across the province. At working sessions with local authorities, Hien called for tougher and more decisive measures against IUU fishing, stressing the need for clearly assigned responsibilities for individuals and agencies.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the inspection is part of a broader initiative to preserve marine resources and ensure sustainable fishing practices in the region. The authorities are focusing on identifying high-risk vessels and implementing stricter monitoring to prevent illegal activities. The crackdown aims to align with national and international regulations, enhancing the province's compliance with anti-IUU fishing standards.

Hien emphasized the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders, including fishermen, local agencies, and law enforcement, to achieve effective results. The People's Committee is also looking at technological solutions to improve tracking and management of fishing activities. This initiative is expected to contribute to long-term economic benefits and environmental sustainability in Quang Ngai.
