Retail Giants in Vietnam Bolster Supplies Ahead of Lunar New Year

HO CHI MINH CITY: Vietnam’s major retail chains are ramping up their inventory in anticipation of the upcoming Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet, to ensure a stable supply and steady prices for essential goods. Saigon Co.op, one of the country’s leading retailers, has amassed over 12,000 tonnes of essential goods, marking an increase of 30-50% compared to regular stock levels. These goods, which are crucial for the market stabilization program, include staples such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, pork, poultry meat, eggs, processed foods, vegetables, fruits, and seafood.

According to Vietnam News Agency, other prominent supermarkets, including Go!, BigC, and Tops Market, which operate under Central Retail Vietnam, as well as Aeon, Satra, and WinMart, are also actively preparing for the year-end shopping rush. These retailers have ensured that their inventory comprises a sufficient amount of essential goods to meet the heightened demand associated with the Tet holiday. The preparations reflect a concerted effort to maintain stability in the market and meet consumer needs during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year.
