The latest problem of reforming bus routes in Bangkok, the Department of Land Transport has collaborated with the BMTA and private sector to temporarily operate buses on the original routes, totaling 9 routes during the transition period.
After online media released information that the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) would stop operating on the original route on August 31, 2024 and adjust the operation from the original route to the reform route of Category 1 buses in Bangkok and provinces with continuous routes, it caused criticism and people who use the bus service expressed their concerns about the possible impacts.
The Department of Land Transport recently invited executives from the BMTA and Thai Smile Bus Co., Ltd. to attend a meeting to discuss ways to reduce the impact from the change in bus routes. The conclusion was that to reduce the impact and convenience for the public from the change in bus routes, the Department of Land Transport allowed the BMTA and Thai Smile Bus Co., Ltd. to tempor
arily operate on the original routes on 9 routes as follows:
BMTA 6 routes:
Line 59 Rangsit – Sanam Luang
Line 68 Bang Lamphu – Samut Sakhon
Line 205 Khlong Toei – Ratchadaphisek Road (lower section)
Line 511 Pak Nam – Bangkok Passenger Transport Station (Taling Chan)
Line 520 Talad Thai – Min Buri
Line 543 Bang Khen – Khlong 9 (Department of Provincial Administration)
Thai Smile Bus Company Limited, 3 routes:
Line 1 Thanon Tok – Tha Tien (turns into Thanon Tok only)
Line 27 Minburi – Lat Phrao Road – Victory Monument
Line 8 Khlong Suan Temple – Lat Ya
The number of buses and the frequency of service will be arranged to be appropriate for the number of passengers at each time period, and the operation of buses will be supervised to be in accordance with the specified conditions. It is confirmed that it is willing to listen to the opinions of the public in order to use as information for planning the development of good service.
