Top Leader Advocates Shift in Mindset to Enhance Elderly’s Role in National Development

Hanoi: Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has called for a fundamental shift in mindset on ageing policies, stressing that older persons should be regarded not only as beneficiaries of social welfare but also as active contributors to national development. The top leader addressed a gathering of 85 outstanding elderly representatives from across the country on June 5 to mark the 85th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Elderly (June 6, 1941-2026).

According to Vietnam News Agency, To Lam emphasized the importance of recognizing the potential of the elderly in contributing to various sectors of national growth. The leader highlighted that the experiences and wisdom of older individuals can significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. He urged policymakers and society to foster conditions that enable the elderly to participate actively in community and national affairs.

To Lam also discussed the need for policies that support the well-being and empowerment of older citizens, ensuring they have access to opportunities that allow them to continue their contributions. He underscored the importance of integrating the elderly into the broader framework of national development strategies, ensuring their roles are valued and respected.
