Hanoi: Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has stressed that developing traditional medicine is not only about preserving the heritage left by previous generations, but also about turning it into a resource for national development and better public healthcare in the new era. Addressing a working session with the Party Committee of the Ministry of Health on Vietnamese traditional medicine in Hanoi on May 20, the top leader requested the Ministry of Health to coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to improve institutions and soon develop and submit a strategy for the development of Vietnamese traditional medicine through 2030, with a vision to 2045.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the strategy aims to integrate traditional medicine within the modern healthcare system, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among various sectors. The plan is expected to enhance research and application of traditional medicine, fostering innovation while ensuring safety and efficacy in treatments.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health has been tasked with increasing public awareness about the benefits of traditional medicine. The ministry is expected to develop educational programs and campaigns to promote traditional practices alongside modern medical treatments. Additionally, efforts will be made to support traditional medicine practitioners by providing training and resources to enhance their skills and knowledge.
The strategy also highlights the potential for traditional medicine to contribute to economic growth by developing it as a sector that can attract investment and create jobs. The integration of traditional medicine into the national healthcare system aims to offer diverse treatment options, benefiting public health outcomes.
