Vietnam Chairs African Regional Consultation for 2026 NPT Review Conference

Addis ababa: Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations and President-designate of the 11th Review Conference (RevCon11) of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), led a regional consultation for African member states from November 20-22 in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The event aimed to engage African nations in discussions related to the upcoming NPT Review Conference scheduled for 2026.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the consultation was organized by Vietnam in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the European Union (EU). It gathered nearly 50 delegates from 30 countries, as well as representatives from regional and international organizations in Africa. This meeting followed the Asia-Pacific Regional Consultation held in October in Hanoi, marking the second event in a series of regional consultations spearheaded by Vietnam ahead of the 2026 Review Conference.
