An giang: Political Commissar of Vietnam Coast Guard Region 4 Command Maj. Gen Nguyen Van Dung on January 9 visited patrol vessel KN-373 in the southern province of An Giang. He instructed officers and sailors to prepare for joint operations to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing during the 2026 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday. The vessel is part of Fisheries Surveillance Flotilla No. 3 under Coast Guard Region 2 Command and will collaborate closely with units from Region 4 during these operations.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the initiative to enhance surveillance and enforcement against IUU fishing comes as part of broader efforts to protect marine resources and ensure sustainable fishing practices in the region. The operations during the Tet holiday are critical due to increased fishing activities and potential violations during this period.
The collaboration between different regions is aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of the operations, ensuring that any illegal activities are swiftly addressed. The Vietnam Coast Guard's efforts are part of a national strategy to address the challenges posed by IUU fishing and to meet international maritime standards.
