Vietnam Consults Stakeholders on Climate Change Scenarios

Hanoi: A consultation workshop convened in Hanoi on July 2 to present and gather feedback on climate change projections and communication for Vietnam. Co-hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment’s Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (IMHEN) and the Department of Climate Change, and the UK Met Office, the event formed part of the Asia-Pacific WISER (Weather and Climate Information Services) Programme funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

According to Vietnam News Agency, the workshop aimed to involve a range of stakeholders in discussions about the potential impacts of climate change in Vietnam. The event provided a platform for experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders to engage in dialogue about climate change scenarios, seek feedback, and discuss strategies for effective communication and response.

The Asia-Pacific WISER Programme, under which this workshop was conducted, is an initiative focused on enhancing weather and climate services across the region. By fostering collaboration between Vietnamese and UK institutions, the programme seeks to improve the availability and accessibility of climate information, thereby aiding in better decision-making and planning.

The involvement of the UK Met Office in the workshop highlights the international collaboration in addressing climate issues. The partnership is part of broader efforts to leverage global expertise in mitigating the effects of climate change and improving resilience in vulnerable regions.

The consultation is a step toward developing comprehensive strategies to tackle climate change, which is a pressing concern for Vietnam due to its long coastline and significant agricultural industry. The insights gained from this workshop are expected to contribute to national policies and action plans aimed at reducing the adverse impacts of climate change.
