New York: Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu has been elected Chair of the ongoing 35th meeting of the States Parties to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (SPLOS 35) which opened in New York on June 23. The five-day meeting is attracting the participation of representatives from 170 member countries, observer states, heads of agencies established under the Convention, and relevant international organisations.
According to Vietnam News Agency, Nguyen Minh Vu’s election as Chair highlights Vietnam’s active role in international maritime affairs. The meeting serves as a platform for member countries and international organizations to discuss and address issues related to the implementation of the Convention on the Law of the Sea. Participants are expected to engage in discussions concerning maritime security, environmental protection, and sustainable use of ocean resources.
