Hanoi: More than 470 tonnes of rice grown in Cuba from Vietnam's OM5451 variety were handed over to Cuban partner GRANMAX at a ceremony in Havana on August 4, marking the first harvest delivered by Vietnamese agricultural company TBAgri under a joint Vietnam-Cuba rice production project. The handover agreement was signed by representatives of TBAgri and the Fernando Echenique Grain Agro-Industrial Company (GRANMAX), covering rice produced from OM5451 seeds cultivated by TBAgri in Yara town, Granma province, eastern Cuba.

According to Vietnam News Agency, this collaboration is part of an ongoing effort to boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security in Cuba through the introduction of high-yield Vietnamese rice varieties. The rice handed over at the ceremony represents a significant milestone in the Vietnam-Cuba partnership, which aims to leverage Vietnam's expertise in rice production to benefit Cuban agriculture.

The joint project between TBAgri and GRANMAX focuses on cultivating Vietnamese rice varieties in Cuba's fertile regions, with the OM5451 variety being selected for its adaptability to local conditions and high yield potential. The success of this first harvest is expected to pave the way for future expansions of the partnership, with the goal of increasing rice production and providing a stable food source for the Cuban population.
