Geneva:The 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council concluded, marking Vietnam's active and responsible participation as a council member for the 2026-2028 term.
According to Vietnam News Agency, during the session that began on September 7, the council adopted 38 resolutions and decisions, held six thematic panel discussions, and engaged in 37 interactive dialogues on various human rights issues. It also completed the adoption of the fourth-cycle Universal Periodic Review outcomes for 15 countries.
The Vietnamese delegation took part in consultations and negotiations on nearly 40 draft resolutions and discussions, co-sponsoring eight resolutions and seven joint statements. They also co-hosted and participated in several initiatives and side events.
Vietnam notably led the drafting of a joint statement on immunisation and access to vaccines, co-sponsored by 42 countries. This statement emphasized the importance of immunisation in healthcare and called for equitable access to vaccines, while promoting international cooperation and sustainable financing.
Additionally, Vietnam hosted a dialogue on promoting older persons' right to healthcare, with participation from the UN Independent Expert on older persons' rights, WHO, and other international bodies. Vietnam also co-hosted events focusing on combating human trafficking and reviewing ASEAN's human rights efforts.
The Vietnamese delegation delivered speeches on various rights, including economic, social, cultural, and environmental issues, reflecting the country's commitment to human rights and sustainable development.
Vietnam's participation aligns with its national development goals and its ambition for economic growth, emphasizing the protection and promotion of human rights as part of its policy framework. Through these efforts, Vietnam aims to contribute constructively to the UN Human Rights Council's work.
