New York: The Group of Asia-Pacific states at the United Nations (UN) has recently agreed to nominate Vietnam for the prestigious role of Chair of the 35th meeting of the States Parties to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (SPLOS). This crucial position will be officially elected just before the meeting, which is scheduled to take place from June 23-27 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

According to Vietnam News Agency, this nomination signifies the high level of trust and recognition that the international community places in Vietnam for its leadership in implementing and reinforcing the universal values of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Vietnam’s positive contributions to the work of the UN, particularly since it became a member of the convention in 1994, have been acknowledged through this nomination.
