Vietnam Proposes Directions at ADMM Retreat in Malaysia

Penang: A Vietnamese delegation led by permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and Deputy Minister of National Defence Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong attended the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat in Penang, Malaysia on February 26. On the sidelines of the event, Cuong and the Vietnamese delegation held four bilateral meetings with their counterparts from Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the meetings focused on strengthening defense cooperation and discussing regional security issues. The Vietnamese delegation proposed several directions aimed at enhancing collaboration among ASEAN member states to address shared challenges and promote peace and stability in the region. The discussions also highlighted the importance of joint efforts in dealing with non-traditional security threats, including cybersecurity and maritime security.

The ADMM Retreat provided a platform for ASEAN defense ministers to engage in open dialogue and explore collaborative solutions to regional security concerns. The participation of the Vietnamese delegation underscored Vietnam’s commitment to contributing to regional peace and stability through active engagement in ASEAN’s defense initiatives.
