Vietnam Ready to Collaborate with ASEAN for Myanmar Support: FM

Bangkok: Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung has affirmed that Vietnam consistently regards Myanmar as a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and views the Five-Point Consensus as an important framework for ASEAN's continued support for the country. He made the statement at an informal meeting between the foreign ministers of ASEAN and their Myanmar counterpart in Bangkok on July 12 under the chairmanship of Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, whose country holds the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the meeting in Bangkok highlighted Vietnam's commitment to working collaboratively within ASEAN to address the ongoing challenges in Myanmar. The Five-Point Consensus, agreed upon by ASEAN leaders, serves as a guiding framework for collective efforts to support peace and stability in Myanmar. This consensus includes calls for an immediate cessation of violence, dialogue among all parties, the provision of humanitarian assistance, and the appointment of a special envoy to Myanmar. Vietnam's stance underscores its dedication to regional cooperation and stability, reflecting its belief in ASEAN's role in facilitating a peaceful resolution to the situation in Myanmar.
