Vietnam Secures Re-Election to UN International Trade Law Commission for 2025-2031.

Hanoi: Vietnam has freshly secured re-election as a member of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the 2025-2031 term, garnering 175 out of 183 votes. This marks the Southeast Asian nation’s second term on the legal body, following its initial tenure from 2019 to 2025. In Asia-Pacific, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea joined Vietnam in securing the membership.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam’s re-election reflects the international community’s recognition of its active contributions and commitment to international trade law development. The country has emphasized its role in fostering a fair, efficient, and harmonized legal framework for international trade and commerce.

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law plays a pivotal role in modernizing and harmonizing rules on international business. Vietnam’s involvement in UNCITRAL is viewed as a significant step in its broader strategy to integr
ate more deeply into the global economy and reinforce its legal and institutional capacities in trade.

The support for Vietnam’s candidacy from a vast majority of UN member states underscores the confidence in Vietnam’s experience and capabilities.
