Hanoi: Vietnam’s flower export industry has officially surpassed 100 million USD in turnover, marking a significant milestone for one of the country’s fastest-growing agricultural sectors, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. Vietnam has a long-standing tradition of cultivating flowers and ornamental plants, while in recent years, the sector has seen significant expansion, with major production areas now established in Da Lat, Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Thap. The country’s current total area dedicated to growing flowers and ornamental plants has reached nearly 45,000 hectares, an eightfold increase compared to 2000. The industry’s output value has also shown impressive growth, rising by between six and eight percent annually.

According to Vietnam News Agency, this growth is attributed to several factors, including advancements in cultivation techniques, government support, and increasing global demand for high-quality flowers. The expansion of production areas in key regions has also contributed to the industry’s success. Major cities such as Da Lat and Hanoi have become central hubs for flower production, known for their favorable climates and rich soil, which are ideal for cultivating a wide variety of ornamental plants. As a result, Vietnam has established itself as a competitive player in the global flower market, exporting to countries around the world.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has highlighted the importance of continued investment in research and development to maintain the growth momentum. Efforts to enhance the quality and variety of flowers produced are seen as crucial in meeting international standards and expanding Vietnam’s market share globally. Additionally, the government is focusing on sustainable practices to ensure long-term growth and environmental protection within the sector.
