Ly son: The Vietnam Records Organisation (VietKings) has officially recognised two reconstructed whale skeletons housed at the Lang Tan relic site on Ly Son island district, now known as Ly Son Special Zone, in the central province of Quang Ngai as the largest of their kind in Vietnam. This recognition, awarded on June 20, underscores the significance of the Lang Tan relic site as it preserves and exhibits these ancient marine giants, each dating back between 250 to 300 years.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the larger of the two skeletons, locally known as Dong Dinh Dai Vuong, measures an impressive 22 metres in length. The smaller skeleton, called Duc Ngu Nhi Vi Ton Than, is 18 metres long. Both skeletal remains include 50 vertebrae, 28 ribs, and a complete skull, showcasing the meticulous reconstruction efforts undertaken to preserve these historical treasures. The recognition by VietKings not only highlights the cultural and historical value of these relics but also places Ly Son on the map as a site of significant maritime heritage in Vietnam.
