World Bank Delegation Explores Low-Emission Rice Production in Can Tho.

Can Tho: A delegation from the World Bank, led by Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific Manuela V. Ferro, visited the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho to discuss low-emission rice production with local authorities, sectors, businesses, and farmers. The visit, which took place on November 19, aimed to explore the potential for sustainable agricultural practices and innovations in rice cultivation.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the delegation conducted a fact-finding tour and learned about a circular production model at the New Green Farm Cooperative in Thot Not district. They engaged in discussions with local stakeholders about rice cultivation under the World Bank-funded Sustainable Agricultural Transformation Project in Vietnam (VnSAT). Additionally, the conversations included plans to develop one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030.

The World Bank’s involvement underscores its commitment to supporting sustainable
agriculture and addressing climate change challenges in Vietnam. The discussions are expected to contribute to the advancement of green growth initiatives and enhance the region’s agricultural resilience.
