Vietnam speeds up COVID-19 vaccination

According to the Ministry of Health, as of Thursday Vietnam has received more than 22 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine including 14 million doses of AstraZeneca, 5 million doses of Moderna, 1.2 million doses of Pfizer, 12,000 doses of Sputnik-V, and 2.5 million doses of Sinopharm.

By Friday morning, Vietnam had administered more than 16.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine across the country.

The Health Ministry said a document has been made on the expected vaccine distribution from now until the end of this year and asked localities to accelerate vaccinations.

At immunization stations, it is necessary to involve members of mass organizations, especially youth union members to help the reception, medical declarations, and registration for vaccination and enter data into a vaccination software.

Medical workers focus on professional tasks – pre-injection screening, vaccine administration, and post-injection monitoring.

Overseas Vietnamese contribute ideas to “Made-in-Vietnam” vaccine

Vietnam is faced with a great opportunity in self-produced vaccines according to Friday’s webinar “Overseas experts join hands to overcome the pandemic” organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.

At the webinar, experts said Vietnam has been proactive in pandemic response, such as producing test kits or developing a vaccine against COVID-19. Nanocovax vaccine developed by Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Joint Stock Company since last May is now ready for emergency licensing. In the first two phases of trials, the Nanocovax vaccine’s antibody index reached more than 90%.

Dr. Nguyen Huu Huan, Scientific Director of IGY Life Sciences Company and Professor of the University of Arizona, the US, said, “Phase 3 clinical trials are consistent with phase 1 and phase 2, meaning the protective effect is directly related to the ability to generate neutralizing antibodies. Even the degree of protection is proportional to the amount of neutralizing antibodies. Nanocovax produces quite good neutralizing antibodies, which can be said to be equivalent to Moderna. In terms of manufacturing capabilities, the company has many products in circulation that are manufactured using recombinant intravenous technology. These are products that require high quality and purity.”

Vietnam strives to have a domestically produced vaccine to be put into use later this year at the earliest.
