Customs raids warehouse of electrical appliances without TIS.

Customs officers raided and seized a warehouse of electrical appliances that did not meet TIS standards, worth over 2 million baht. Mr. Panthong Loykulnan, spokesman of the Customs Department, revealed that the Customs Department requested a court warrant to search and seize substandard goods from a large warehouse in Soi Pho Phut Tan 2, Phrom Rat Road, Bang Bon Tai Subdistrict, Bang Bon District. Electrical appliances such as fans, rice cookers, grills, and light bulbs were found, totaling 9,830 items, worth over 2 million baht. These goods did not meet the Industrial Product Standards (TIS) and no documents evidencing customs clearance were found. The Customs Department spokesman said that if these products are sold in the market, they will be dangerous to the public. Moreover, selling substandard products at low prices will severely affect the economy of honest entrepreneurs who produce and sell standard products. The Customs Department has also seized many products at the port/place of import to await the approval result from TISI. If the seized products do not meet the quality specified by TISI, they will be ordered to be sent back to the country of origin in accordance with the guidelines specified by TISI. For the fiscal year 2024 (1 October 2023 - 23 August 2024), the Customs Department has statistics of seizures of goods that do not meet the industrial product standards (TIS) in a total of 26 cases, totaling 241,801 items, with a total value of 68.55 million baht.- Source: Thai News Agency
