Hanoi: Despite lingering challenges, durian remains the leading contributor to Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export revenue, with shipments expected to pick up in the coming months as competition from other regional suppliers eases. According to Vietnam News Agency, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association reported that the country's fruit and vegetable exports were estimated at 4.76 billion USD in the first seven months of 2026, marking a 23% year-on-year increase. Export turnover in July alone exceeded 1 billion USD.
The robust performance of durian in the export market underscores its significant role in sustaining the growth of Vietnam's agricultural sector. The fruit's popularity in international markets, particularly in China, has been a key driver of this success. Despite facing challenges such as stringent quality standards and competition from neighboring countries, Vietnamese exporters continue to capitalize on the high demand for durian.
Industry experts are optimistic that the easing of competition from other regional suppliers will further boost Vietnam's durian exports in the latter half of the year. The Vietnamese government and exporters are also working to diversify their market presence and meet international quality standards to maintain their competitive edge in the global market.
