Green Fuel Transition Gains Momentum as E10 Goes Nationwide

Hanoi: Starting June 1, E10 biofuel will officially be distributed nationwide under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)'s roadmap, marking a major step in Vietnam's green energy transition strategy, greenhouse gas emission reduction efforts, and commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Under the ministry's Circular No. 50/2025/TT-BCT, all unleaded petrol sold on the domestic market from June 1 must be blended with ethanol to produce E10 for petrol-powered vehicles nationwide. Meanwhile, E5RON92 petrol will continue to be available until the end of 2030.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the introduction of E10 biofuel is part of Vietnam's broader strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote sustainable energy sources. The distribution of E10 aligns with the country's commitment to international environmental agreements and its goal to reduce carbon emissions significantly. The MoIT has been working on this transition to ensure a smooth implementation and to educate the public about the benefits of using biofuels.

The roadmap set by the MoIT includes comprehensive guidelines for the blending and distribution of E10 across the country. The initiative is also expected to support local agriculture by increasing demand for ethanol, which is derived from crops. This move is anticipated to provide economic benefits to the agricultural sector while contributing to environmental sustainability.

Vietnam's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is a significant part of its national development plan. The transition to E10 biofuel is a critical component of this plan, as it aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the transportation sector. The continued availability of E5RON92 petrol until the end of 2030 offers a transitional period for consumers and industries to adapt to the new regulations.
