Hanoi Expands Electric Bus Network with 10 New Routes

Hanoi: Hanoi has put into operation 10 electric bus routes with a total of 288 vehicles from April 1, marking a significant step in the capital city's roadmap to develop greener public transport. By April 30, the city will add 170 electric buses across 11 routes, bringing the total number of electric bus routes to 39 with 683 vehicles, accounting for 35% of the total fleet. As of March, Hanoi's bus network comprises 155 routes, including 128 subsidised routes, 11 non-subsidised routes, 13 inter-provincial routes and three city tour routes. The network covers all 126 communes and wards in the city and connects Hanoi with five neighbouring localities - Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh and Phu Tho. The system currently includes 5,024 bus stops, 354 shelters, five transfer stations, 133 terminals and 12.9 kilometres of dedicated bus lanes.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the expansion is part of Hanoi's broader initiative to promote sustainable urban transportation and reduce the city's carbon footprint. The introduction of these electric buses is expected to enhance the efficiency and environmental performance of the public transport system in Hanoi. The city's commitment to increasing the number of electric buses is a vital component of its strategy to modernize its public transportation infrastructure and provide more eco-friendly travel options for residents and visitors.

The development of the electric bus network aligns with Hanoi's long-term goals to improve air quality and decrease reliance on fossil fuels. By expanding the electric bus system, the city aims to create a more sustainable urban environment and set a precedent for other regions in the country to follow. The initiative also supports the city's efforts to integrate modern technology into public services, ensuring a cleaner and more efficient transport network for the future.
