Hue: The 'Hue - Plastic Smart City in Central Vietnam' project has successfully prevented 933.6 tonnes of plastic waste from leaking into the natural environment over the past five years. This achievement is a result of the implementation of household solid waste sorting-at-source across all wards and communes of Hue city. These results were presented at a conference reviewing the project's progress and impact during the 2021-2026 period, organized on May 23 by the municipal People's Committee in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Vietnam.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the project was launched in 2021 with funding from the Norwegian people through WWF-Norway and WWF-Vietnam. Its primary goal is to assist Hue in protecting its rivers, wetlands, and coastal ecosystems from plastic pollution. The project also seeks to establish Hue as a model plastic-reduced urban area in central Vietnam.
