Intangible Cultural Heritage Value of Hung Yen’s Longan Promoted

Hanoi: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has officially inscribed 'the knowledge of cultivating and processing longan' in the northern province of Hung Yen on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, under the category of folk knowledge and traditional craftsmanship. This recognition highlights the knowledge accumulated by local communities over many generations, closely linked to the cultivation, care, harvesting, preservation, and processing of Hung Yen longans.

According to Vietnam News Agency, this prestigious acknowledgment serves to protect and promote the unique cultural identity associated with Hung Yen's longan cultivation. The local communities have developed specialized skills and methods over time, ensuring the sustainability and quality of the longans, which are renowned for their distinct flavor and texture.

The recognition as an intangible cultural heritage underscores the importance of preserving traditional agricultural practices and the cultural significance of longan cultivation in Hung Yen. It is expected that this status will not only help safeguard the traditional knowledge but also boost the local economy through enhanced tourism and market opportunities for the longans.
