Lao, Cambodian, Thai New Year Festivals Strengthen Bonds in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho chi minh city: A vibrant celebration of traditional New Year festivals from Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 11 helped deepen friendship, cultural understanding, and solidarity between Vietnam and these countries. The event was organized at Pho Minh Pagoda by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) in coordination with the International Buddhist Affairs Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)'s chapter in the city. It featured the Chol Chhnam Thmey festival of Cambodia, Bunpimay of Laos, and Songkran of Thailand.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the event was attended by Lao Consul General Phonesy Bounmixay, Cambodian Consul General Chan Sorykan, and representatives of the Thai Consulate General. It also saw the participation of students and members of the Cambodian, Lao, and Thai communities who are living, studying, and working in Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival provided an opportunity for attendees to engage with the cultural traditions of the participating countries, fostering a sense of unity and mutual respect. The celebrations included traditional rituals and activities that are emblematic of each country's New Year festivities.

This event is part of ongoing efforts by HUFO and VBS to promote cultural exchange and strengthen diplomatic and community ties among Southeast Asian nations, particularly in a city as diverse as Ho Chi Minh City.
