Hanoi: The Netherlands has committed to promoting the application of its Sand Motor technology and other advanced initiatives in Vietnam to meet economic development needs while protecting natural resources and ensuring sustainable, nature-based growth, Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Kees van Baar told Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at their meeting in Hanoi on August 14.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the Dutch Ambassador emphasized the importance of sharing innovative solutions like the Sand Motor model, which has proven effective in the Netherlands for coastal management and environmental preservation. This collaboration aims to address the challenges posed by climate change and economic development while prioritizing sustainability.
The Sand Motor is a unique approach to coastal protection that involves depositing a large volume of sand along the coastline, allowing natural forces such as waves, wind, and currents to redistribute the sand along the shore over time. This method not only strengthens coastal defenses but also creates new opportunities for ecological and recreational developments.
Vietnam, with its extensive coastline and vulnerability to climate change impacts, stands to benefit significantly from the adoption of such nature-based solutions. The collaboration between the Netherlands and Vietnam reflects a commitment to leveraging global expertise to address local challenges.
The meeting between the Dutch Ambassador and Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister underscores the growing partnership between the two nations in the field of environmental sustainability and economic development, paving the way for future cooperation in similar initiatives.
