New Mindset and Vision Urged for Marine Development by Top Leader

Hanoi: Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has called for a fundamental shift in mindset and vision in marine development in the new period, stressing the need for a broader vision that views the sea not merely as an economic resource but as a strategic national development space. He made the request while chairing a meeting in Hanoi on June 8 with the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies and relevant agencies on the review of Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW, issued by the Party Central Committee on October 22, 2018, on Vietnam's sustainable marine economy development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the meeting highlighted the importance of integrating the marine economy into the broader national development framework. This includes considering environmental sustainability and the socio-economic impacts of marine policies. The leaders emphasized that the marine sector should not be isolated from other sectors but rather seen as a part of a comprehensive development strategy that includes tourism, fisheries, and environmental conservation.

The review of Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW emphasized the need to update the current strategies to align with the evolving global marine economy landscape. The discussion pointed towards strengthening international cooperation and utilizing advanced technologies to enhance marine resources' sustainable use. The meeting also underscored the importance of addressing climate change impacts on marine ecosystems and coastal communities.

President To Lam highlighted that a new vision for marine development should prioritize national security, environmental protection, and economic growth. He urged relevant agencies to work collaboratively to develop policies that reflect these priorities and to ensure that marine economic activities contribute to the overall prosperity and security of the nation.
