Hanoi: Passion fruit, banana, pineapple, and coconut are emerging as Vietnam’s next billion-dollar export items, offering strong potential to diversify the country’s fruit and vegetable sector, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. These fruits not only have substantial production capacity but also align with global consumption trends and increasingly strict import requirements.
According to Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam currently cultivates more than 50 fruit varieties across over 1.3 million hectares of farmland. Together, these four fruit crops cover over 420,000 hectares and yield more than 6.3 million tonnes annually. The strategic focus on these fruit varieties aims to strengthen the country’s position in the global market by meeting the rising demand for tropical fruits.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment highlights that the production and export of these fruits not only supports economic growth but also contributes to the livelihoods of farmers across Vietnam. The export
potential of these fruits is expected to drive investments in agricultural infrastructure and technology, further enhancing production efficiency and quality.
The alignment with global consumption trends indicates that Vietnam’s fruit sector is well-positioned to meet international standards, thereby increasing the country’s competitiveness in the global market. The focus on these key fruit exports is a strategic move to capitalize on the growing demand for tropical fruits, ensuring Vietnam’s continued growth and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
