PM Demands Transport Development for Poverty Elimination in Mekong Delta

Can Tho: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 21 urged five means of transport – road, air, sea, river, and rail – to be developed so that the Mekong Delta can escape from poverty. He made the demand while presiding over a meeting held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho to look into the progress of key transport projects in the southern region.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a comprehensive transportation system in the region, which is crucial for economic growth and poverty alleviation. He highlighted that enhancing connectivity through these five modes of transport would significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta.

The meeting in Can Tho focused on assessing the current state of infrastructure and exploring strategies to expedite ongoing and upcoming transport projects. The Prime Minister called for coordinated efforts from relevant ministries and local authorities to ensure the timely completion of these projects.

The initiative is part of a broader governmental strategy to boost economic opportunities and improve living standards in the Mekong Delta, which is one of Vietnam’s most vital agricultural and economic zones.
