Hanoi: The northern province of Bac Ninh has earned an estimated more than 2.62 trillion VND (99.5 million USD) in lychee revenue during the opening days of the 2026 harvest season, driven by record-high prices and strong domestic and export demand. Based on average prices since the start of the season, the province's lychee revenue has already reached about 70.5% of the total earned in 2025, despite the harvest only recently getting underway. As of June 8, around 47,530 tonnes of lychees had been sold, equivalent to 38% of the province's production estimate. Domestic sales hit 29,030 tonnes or 61.08%, while exports reached 18,500 tonnes. The province expects total lychee output to reach 125,000 tonnes in 2026, equivalent to 60.9% of the 2025 figure. However, authorities forecast revenue will surpass last year's level as prices are expected to remain high throughout the harvest season.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the significant increase in early-season revenue is attributed to the soaring prices of lychees, which have reached unprecedented levels. This price surge is bolstered by robust demand both within Vietnam and in international markets. The province has already managed to sell a substantial amount of its projected lychee output, with domestic and export markets showing a strong appetite for the fruit.
The local authorities remain optimistic about the remaining harvest season, predicting that the favorable pricing conditions will continue to drive revenue growth. Despite the anticipated lower total output compared to the previous year, Bac Ninh is poised to surpass last year's revenue figures, capitalizing on the current market dynamics. The province's focus on quality and strategic marketing efforts has positioned it well to meet the demands of both domestic consumers and international buyers seeking premium lychees.
