Spouses of Vietnamese and Swiss Leaders Visit Hanoi University of Pharmacy

Hanoi:Madam Ngo Phuong Ly, spouse of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam, along with Madam Caroline Parmelin, spouse of Swiss President Guy Parmelin, visited Hanoi University of Pharmacy on the afternoon of October 17. This visit was part of the Swiss couple's official trip to Vietnam.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the Hanoi University of Pharmacy is of particular significance in the relationship between Vietnam and Switzerland. This is due to its historical connection with Alexandre Yersin, a French scientist of Swiss origin, who was born in 1863 in the canton of Vaud, the homeland of President Parmelin. Yersin served as the first principal of the Indochina Medical College, which later evolved into today's Hanoi University of Pharmacy and Hanoi Medical University.

Yersin's contributions to the field of medicine in Vietnam have been substantial, further underscoring the importance of the university in fostering bilateral relations between the two nations.
