Typhoon Kajiki Triggers Widespread Floodings, Landslides in Northern, Central Localities, Claiming One Life

Hanoi: Northern and central localities are grappling with the widespread impacts of Typhoon Kajiki, the fifth storm to arise in the East Sea this year, which has brought torrential rain, flooding, and strong winds across multiple provinces. The storm, which has weakened into a tropical depression over central Laos on early August 26 morning, has caused significant disruption in urban centres, with continued warnings of landslides, flash floods, and further weather hazards in the hours ahead. In Ninh Binh province, Kajiki triggered severe thunderstorms and tornado-like winds on the evening of August 25, causing the collapse of several buildings and resulting in one fatality. The victim, living in Ly Thuong Kiet ward (formerly part of Ha Nam province), died when her house collapsed during the storm.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the storm’s impact has been felt across several regions, leading to emergency services being deployed to assist with evacuations and rescue operations. Authorities have issued warnings to residents in affected areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the risk of additional landslides and flash floods remains high. The government has mobilized resources to aid in recovery efforts and ensure the safety of those in vulnerable areas.
