Vietnam: Vietnam has called for stronger action by the international community, including greater technology transfer, digital inclusion, capacity building, and sustainable financing for developing countries, to accelerate progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the 2030 deadline approaches. The appeal was made by Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hai Luu, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, at the high-level segment of the 2026 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), held in New York from July 13 to 15.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the forum brought together global leaders and representatives to discuss strategies and commitments to achieve the SDGs. Nguyen Hai Luu emphasized the critical need for international cooperation and collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by developing nations. He highlighted the importance of technology transfer, which can play a significant role in advancing development goals and reducing inequalities.
Nguyen Hai Luu also pointed out the need for digital inclusion as a means to ensure that all countries, regardless of their economic status, can partake in the digital revolution. This, he noted, would require substantial capacity building efforts to equip nations with the necessary skills and infrastructure.
Furthermore, the minister counsellor underscored the urgency of securing sustainable financing mechanisms that can support long-term development projects in vulnerable regions. He called upon developed countries to honor their financial commitments and assist in creating a more equitable global economic environment.
The call to action by Vietnam aligns with the broader objectives of the UN's agenda, which seeks to foster global partnerships to address pressing issues such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. Vietnam's proactive stance at the HLPF signals its commitment to contributing to international efforts aimed at realizing a more sustainable future for all.
