Vietnamese, Russian Cities Boost Cooperation in Urban Infrastructure Development

Moscow: A trilateral working session between Moscow, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City has marked a new push to strengthen cooperation between the Vietnamese and Russian localities, particularly in developing sustainable urban transport infrastructure. The meeting, held in Moscow within the framework of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Russia from March 22 - 25, brought together officials from the three cities to exchange experience and explore collaboration opportunities, with a strong focus on the development of metro systems in the two largest urban centres of Vietnam.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the discussions aimed at enhancing the existing partnerships and identifying new avenues for collaboration in urban infrastructure development. The officials emphasized the importance of sustainable solutions to address the growing urban transport demands in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. They acknowledged the potential benefits of collaborating with Moscow, a city with a well-developed metro network and a history of overcoming similar urban challenges.

The working session highlighted several key areas for cooperation, including technology transfer, expertise sharing, and joint investment ventures. Both Vietnamese cities are keen on leveraging Moscow's experience and technical know-how to expedite the development of their metro systems, which are crucial for easing traffic congestion and reducing environmental impact in rapidly growing urban areas.

This initiative reflects a broader trend of strengthening ties between Vietnam and Russia across various sectors, with urban infrastructure emerging as a critical focus area. The outcomes of this session are expected to pave the way for the implementation of substantial projects that will benefit residents and contribute to sustainable urban development in both countries.
