Hanoi: Vietnam and Cambodia have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying the search, collection, and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia during wartime, despite increasingly scarce information about burial sites. The commitment was made at the 25th meeting of the specialised committees of the Vietnamese and Cambodian governments, held in Ho Chi Minh City from August 16-20 to review cooperation in the search and repatriation of Vietnamese martyrs' remains.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the meeting highlighted the challenges faced due to the limited information available about the burial sites of the fallen soldiers and experts. Both nations recognized the importance of their collaborative efforts in locating and repatriating these remains as a sign of respect and remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives.
The committees discussed strategies to enhance cooperation and information sharing between the two countries. They emphasized the need for continued joint efforts and support to overcome the difficulties posed by the passage of time and the diminishing availability of firsthand accounts or records of the burial sites.
The Vietnamese and Cambodian governments reiterated their dedication to this humanitarian mission and expressed hope that their ongoing collaboration would lead to the successful recovery and repatriation of the remains, offering closure to the families of the martyrs.
