Vietnam Calls for Stronger International Cooperation in Combating Terrorism, Violent Extremism

Vietnam: Vietnam has called for stronger international cooperation against terrorist acts and violent extremism at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)'s ninth biennial review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy held at UN Headquarters in New York on July 2 (local time). Speaking at the event, Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hai Luu, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, acknowledged the efforts made by the UN and its member states in combating terrorism, while stressing that terrorism remains a serious threat to global peace, stability, and development.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hai Luu emphasized the importance of collective action and shared responsibility among nations to address the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism. He highlighted the necessity for comprehensive strategies that include not only military measures but also political, economic, and social interventions to effectively counter these threats.

Minister Counsellor Luu also pointed out that international cooperation should be strengthened in areas such as information sharing, capacity building, and the implementation of international legal frameworks. He urged member states to enhance their efforts to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies, particularly through the misuse of information technology and social media platforms.

Vietnam's call for enhanced international cooperation underscores the country's commitment to global peace and security. By addressing these challenges at the UNGA, Vietnam aims to foster a collaborative environment where nations can work together to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism.
