Vietnam Repatriates Remains of US MIA Servicemen

Hanoi: The 171st repatriation ceremony for the remains of US servicemen missing in action (MIA) from the war in Vietnam took place at Gia Lam airport in Hanoi on December 13, following a recent unilateral search in the northern province of Lao Cai. The ceremony served as a poignant capstone to 2025, a year marking the 30th anniversary of Vietnam – US diplomatic ties, the 40th anniversary of joint MIA search operations and the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the repatriation ceremony underscored the ongoing commitment between Vietnam and the United States to account for those missing from the conflict that ended half a century ago. This cooperative effort reflects a significant aspect of the diplomatic relationship between the two nations, which has evolved considerably over the past three decades.

The recent unilateral search in Lao Cai province, which led to the discovery of the remains, highlights Vietnam’s dedication to this humanitarian cause. The ceremony at Gia Lam airport was attended by officials from both countries, further emphasizing the collaborative spirit behind these efforts.
