GISTDA-EGAT jointly introduce geo-informatics technology to create energy security

GISTDA joins forces with EGAT to collaborate on academic cooperation in space technology and geo-informatics, applying innovation and AI to create energy security. Mr. Pakorn Aphapant, Director of Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and Mr. Thepparat Theppitak, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (October 11, 2024) on academic cooperation in space technology and geo-informatics, focusing on the use of geo-informatics technology to create innovations for application in EGAT's missions, including cooperation in the development of personnel in geo-informatics technology and the exchange of academic knowledge, innovation use and artificial intelligence (AI) between the two agencies. Mr. Pakorn, GISTDA Director, said that one of GISTDA's missions is to study and analyze data from Thailand Earth Observation Satellite 2 or THEOS-2 and other satel lite images, including agricultural, disaster, hot spots, meteorological and hydrographic data from coastal radar stations and meteorological satellites, to create a geospatial database. Such data can be applied to create benefits, including promoting innovations that will support EGAT's missions in all aspects, so that EGAT has accurate and precise data, ready to support work more efficiently, and to add value to space technology and geospatial work. Mr. Thepparat said that GISTDA is an agency with expertise and potential in space technology and geo-informatics. Data from satellites and geo-informatics, along with cooperation in creating innovations in artificial intelligence (AI), can greatly support EGAT's operations, such as estimating electricity production estimates from solar panels nationwide more accurately. It is also used to track changes in areas to check for encroachment on power transmission lines and EGAT's areas, as well as to assess the potential of various types of energy and manage the env ironment sustainably. This cooperation will help improve the efficiency and quality of work, as well as open up opportunities to develop the potential of EGAT's personnel. Source: Thai News Agency
