Vietnam GDP per capita among world’s most impressive growth: Forbes

 

27th November 2022 (VOV5) Vietnam GDP per capita has displayed some of the most impressive growth among all the nations of the world, according to Forbes. This trend is a reflection of the dynamism of Vietnam’s economy and its remarkable evolution over the years, said the American business magazine.

 

From 2006 to 2021, Vietnam GDP per capita grew by nearly 371%. In fact, a growth rate of 371% is close to Vietnam GDP per capita increasing five-fold.

 

“Even when we analyze Vietnam’s GDP per capita in constant 2015 US dollars (as opposed to current US dollars), Vietnam’s growth in GDP per capita is stunning,” forbes.com wrote. In constant 2015 US dollars, the Vietnam GDP per capita in 2006 was 1,650.63 USD, before rising to 3,373.08 USD in 2021. That equates to a 15-year growth rate of 104.4% in Vietnam’s GDP per capita.

 

Using data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), the author analyzed how much the economy of Vietnam has changed over the last 15 years. Back in 2006, Vietnam’s biggest export product was crude petroleum, representing 16.9% of its exports that year and equal to 7.72 billion USD. Fast-forward to 2020, and crude petroleum now only accounts for 0.54% of Vietnam’s exports, equal to 1.64 billion USD. Instead, broadcasting equipment has become Vietnam’s top export product, accounting for 14% of exports, with a value of 42 billion USD. It is followed by telephones and integrated circuits.

 

According to the OEC, over the last 20 years, Vietnam’s economy has increased in complexity, rising on the Economic Complexity Indicators (ECI) ranking from 83rd to 61st in the world.

Top legislator to visit Australia, New Zealand

27th November 2022 (VOV5) National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will pay official visits to Australia and New Zealand from November 30 to December 6, according to the NA Foreign Relations Committee.

 

The visits will be made at invitations by Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Milton Dick, President of the Australian Senate Sue Lines, and Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives Adrian Rurawhe.

PM inaugurates key facilities at Southern Petrochemical Complex

27th November 2022 (VOV5) Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday attended the inauguration ceremony of the port-specialised tank cluster and a central utility plant of the 5 billion USD Southern Petrochemical Complex project in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. The Complex, the first integrated petrochemical complex in Vietnam,

 

is designed to produce various petrochemical products, including essential plastic materials such as polyethene, polypropylene, and other products in excess of two million tonnes per year, enabling it to substitute imported polyolefin products.

 

The Complex, together with the Nghi Son Refinery in the north and Binh Son Refinery in the central region, will form a network of refineries across the country, ensuring the supply of petroleum for the domestic market, PM Chinh said.

 

Roongrote Rangsiyopash, Chairman and CEO of Thailand’s Siam Cement Group (SCG), the investor of the project, said that the complex shows the firm’s long-term commitment to Vietnam’s sustainable development.

Buckwheat Flower Festival opens in Ha Giang

27th November 2022 (VOV5) The 8th Buckwheat Flower Festival opened in Dong Van District in the northern mountainous provibce of Ha Giang on Saturday. Visitors will have the chance to not only enjoy the beauty of buckwheat flowers, but also explore the lifestyle of local ethinic minorities and their unique culture.

 

At the opening ceremony, Chairman of the a Giang Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Son said that the festival is an important cultural and tourist event to honor the beauty of the typical flower of the Dong Van rocky plateau and spread the special values of Ha Giang’s  people and culture.

 

Since 2015, the annual festival is held in the middle of November, when the immense fields of buckwheat flower come into full bloom.

Ao dai Festival 2022 to stimulate Hanoi’s tourism

27th November 2022 (VOV5) The Hanoi Ao dai Tourism Festival will take place from next Friday at the pedestrian street area around Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi, according to the municipal Department of Tourism. The opening ceremony will include three parts featuring the history of Ao dai (traditional long dress).

 

Ao dai performances staged by tourism, airline, and accomodation businesses will be the highlight of the festival, demonstrating the transformation of the Ao dai from “cultural ambassador” to “tourism ambassador.”

 

Visitors will also enjoy a show of Ao dai worn by domestic and international models.

 

More than 700 women from different generations will take part in a large-scale Ao dai parade to be organized by the Hanoi Women’s Union.

Agro-forestry, aquatic exports hit 49 billion USD in 11 months

27th November 2022 (VOV5) Vietnam earned 49 billion USD from agro-forestry and aquatic product exports in the past eleven months, a year-on-year rise of 12%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The export value of farm produce reached more than 20 billion USD, aquatic products 10 billion USD and forestry products more than 15 billion USD.

 

The US, China and Japan continued to be the three largest importers of these products.

 

The US topped the list with 25%, followed by China with 19% and Japan with 8%.

UN Under-Secretary-General visits Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations

27th November 2022 (VOV5) UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix on Saturday visited the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations as part of his visit to Vietnam to co-chair the International Conference on Women with the UN Peacekeeping Operations. Lacroix said he was impressed by Vietnam’s success in UN peace keeping activities and pledged to promote his role as a bridge to further strengthen the UN-Vietnam cooperation, especially in UN peacekeeping.

 

He praised the Department for chairing and coordinating with international partners to successfully organise international training courses on peacekeeping, towards the goal of becoming a regional-class peacekeeping training centre.

 

Director of the Department Maj. Gen. Hoang Kim Phung stated that Vietnam has sent more than 500 officers and soldiers to UN peacekeeping missions.

PM calls HCM city’s socio-economic achievements “stunning”

27th November 2022 (VOV5) Though the locality hardest hit by COVID-19 in Vietnam, HCM city has recorded “stunning” socio-economic achievements over the past year, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during a meeting with municipal leaders on Sunday. The city’s Gross Regional Domestic Product this year is projected to grow 9%, exceeding the plan of between 6% and 6.5%. Its export turnover is estimated at 49.5 billion USD, up 10.3%, and the Index of Industrial Production is expected to expand 17.3%.

 

PM Chinh said HCM city’s achievements have contributed significantly to Vietnam’s effort to maintain macroeconomic stability and control inflation.

 

He suggested that HCM city give priority to the disbursement of public investment, noting that the Government will continue to help the city remove all barriers in this area.
