Accelerating Artificial Intelligence capabilities to sustainably advance agriculture

London, December 9, 2022

CNH Industrial has acquired a 10% minority stake in Stout Industrial Technology (Stout). The US-based startup is focused on smart implements for agriculture that are powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Enhancing our See & Act machine learning capabilities

See & Act allows machines to carry out tasks based on sensor-detected data. Stout has demonstrated results in this field with their Smart Cultivator – a software-controlled implement for tractors that uses cameras, AI and proprietary vision technology to distinguish crops from weeds. Once identified, the implement simultaneously cultivates crops and removes weeds.

Ultimately this technology simplifies cultivating and weeding for our customers, letting them perform the tasks simultaneously – and without the use of chemicals. Stout’s existing platform expands our mechanical weeding product offering and will accelerate our development of further cultivation solutions. Stout machines will soon be distributed via our New Holland brand’s dealer network.

Smart implement technology is one of the many ways that CNH Industrial is Breaking New Ground for the world’s farmers.

NEW YORK, Dec. 09, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Johan Lindeberg, known for his work at Diesel and for founding the brands J.Lindeberg and BLK DNM, is now to be known as JAY3LLE (pronounced jay-elle). With this change, he reclaims his name and the ability to use it in his work.

“It has been complicated to use my personal name in my creative work when my name is on a brand I’m no longer involved with,” says JAY3LLE. “I have found a new freedom in JAY3LLE: a new name and the beginning of a new chapter of my career.”

JAY3LLE will create not only his own direct expression in physical and digital elements, but also through collaborations and as a creative consultant.

“As JAY3LLE, I can express myself in my own work, as well as a creative design studio and a progressive platform, where we can continue to create innovative energy and inspire people,” says JAY3LLE.

ABOUT JAY3LLE

Johan Lindeberg, as he has been known professionally to this point, has a vast background as a visionary brand builder. In the 90s, he led the team that created the iconic Diesel successful living campaign and was also responsible to conceptualize the Diesel lifestyle. He also launched Diesel in the U.S. After the success of Diesel, Lindeberg left the brand and launched his namesake brand J. Lindeberg. The brand was among the first to combine fashion and sports; the combination of skinny tailoring parallelled with a complete paradigm shift in golf fashion. In 2007, Lindeberg walked out of a board meeting and stood up for his creative vision when investors wanted to take the brand in a direction he disagreed with. From there, Lindeberg worked as stylist for Justin Timberlake and supported him in creating the brand William Rast. After that, Lindeberg created the brand BLK DNM which became a successful movement from NYC. He then decided to focus on photography and left the brand to go back as a creative consultant for J. Lindeberg, where he, during 2016-2017, repositioned the brand with new energy after the brand had been going from a progressive positioning to a more conservative brand. In 2019, he drove a repositioning of BLK DNM from Stockholm. Lindeberg has also worked as a consultant for Pernod Ricard to support new creative energy in Martell, Glenlivet and Avion tequila. He has also been Creative Director during the launch of Absolut Elyx.

CNH Industrial presents first electric tractor prototype with autonomous features

 Electric Power Front View

T4 Electric Power Front View

Zero emissions farming solution enhances value and delivers next step in the Company’s innovation plan

London, December 9, 2022

CNH Industrial revealed the New Holland T4 Electric Power – the industry’s first all-electric light utility tractor prototype with autonomous features – at its Tech Day in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

A concentrated effort between our team of experts in the USA (Burr Ridge, Detroit) and Italy (Modena) was able to halve this prototype’s development time thanks to collaboration with our strategic partner Monarch Tractor – an electrified Ag innovator based in California, USA. Our expertise and resources, in conjunction with Monarch’s disruptive technology, made this world-first result possible.

This product milestone is the latest development in our strategic plan for electrification. The prototype presented is branded New Holland Agriculture, while the commercial model will also extend to our Case IH Brand. It follows the launch of the multi award-winning e-Source power pack – an external generator for electric farm implements.

The T4 Electric Power is the ideal solution for lower horsepower operations. It is suited to mixed farm, livestock, municipality, orchard and specialty applications. We know our customers are eager to adopt this type of product, so it makes perfect sense for us to continue our Ag electrification journey with this platform,” explains Marc Kermisch, Chief Digital & Information Officer, CNH Industrial.

The finer details: Power/ Performance / Precision

This First-Generation Battery Electric Light Vehicle belongs to the utility tractor segment. Commercial production is expected to begin at the end of 2023 with a broader product offering to follow.

Power

E-Motor peak: Up to 120hpMax Torque: Up to 440Nm
4-wheel drive: Yes Max Speed: 40 kphZero Emissions: Always

Depending on the mission profile, the tractor’s battery pack delivers up to a full day of operation. It takes just one hour to reach 100% power when using commercially available fast charging systems. The tractor’s electrical outlets support daily farm tasks such as welding and drilling. It doubles as a backup power generator for daily or emergency needs. And it provides energy for electric implements. Traditional mechanical, hydraulic and Power Take Off implements can also be used.

Performance

In testing, the T4 Electric Power showed exceptional performance compared to a conventional diesel tractor. Its superb responsiveness makes it more aggressive, efficient and provides greater traction control. Smoother shuttling and gear shifts make it even more of a pleasure to drive. It also reduces operating costs by up to 90% for our customers, thanks to eliminating diesel fuel costs and associated maintenance fees.

And it’s quiet. Noise is reduced by up to 90% and vibration is also substantially dampened. This respects stringent municipal noise regulations, allows for nighttime operation, and improves livestock wellbeing, especially when working inside covered areas such as barns.

Precision

What makes this tractor a world first are its autonomous features and automated capabilities. Together these technologies provide leading solutions that support operators of all skill levels.

The T4 Electric Power’s roof houses sensors, cameras and control units which enable its advanced autonomous and automated features. Farmers can remotely activate the tractor via a smartphone app. Shadow Follow Me mode lets operators sync machines to work together. A 360-degree perception system detects and avoids obstacles. Telematics and auto guidance keep all functions in check for operators. Fleet Management lets the farm manager assign tasks to each piece of equipment. Implement recognition ensures the tractor seamlessly links up with the required attachment. And offboard digital services let farmers run the tractor from anywhere, at any time, while monitoring its performance and battery level.

CNH Industrial’s global Design Team have styled our alternative power portfolio. The T4 Electric Power on display features the New Holland Clean Blue color – also present on the new T7 Methane Power LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) launched at Tech Day. Their illuminated leaf emblem and signature taillights mark a clear distinction from the aesthetics of conventional diesel tractors.

The T4 Electric Power joins the New Holland T7 Methane Power LNG and T6 Methane Power tractors for an alternative source portfolio that further demonstrates CNH Industrial’s commitment to sustainably advancing agriculture for the world’s farmers.

UN Secretary-General stresses importance of UNCLOS

The adoption by most nations of the world of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 40 years ago, was a “vital step to bring governance and order” to the vast collective treasure that is the ocean, said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

He made the remark while addressing a UN General Assembly meeting marking the 40th anniversary of the adoption of UNCLOS in New York on December 8.

“The ocean is life. The ocean is livelihoods and the ocean binds humanity together across history and cultures”, he noted, adding that the convention now is more relevant than ever as the ocean is in dire straits.

Guterres pointed out that around 35% of the world’s fisheries are being over-exploited, sea levels are rising as the climate crisis continues, and the ocean is acidifying and choked with pollution. Coral reefs are bleaching, “epic floods” threaten coastal cities everywhere, and too often, “people working in ocean-based industries are not accessing the support or safe working conditions they need and deserve.”

Greater ambition is needed, he told the meeting, and the anniversary should be “an important reminder to continue using this critical instrument to tackle today’s challenges.”

The UN chief said the recently adopted Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies needed to be adopted swiftly, ensuring that all policies towards the ocean are “underpinned by the best science, and the best economic and social expertise.”

UNCLOS was adopted by 107 parties, including Vietnam, on December 10, 1982. It officially entered into force on November 16, 1994 and became one of the most important international agreements in the 20th century. It has been ratified by 168 parties so far./.

Area in Sydney named “Little Vietnam”

Inner West Council in Sydney, Australia’s New South Wales, on December 8 announced the name “Little Vietnam” for an area where many Vietnamese Australians are living.

The area is located along Illawarra Street from the intersection with Marrickville Road to Warren Road.

According to Inner West Council, naming the area “Little Vietnam” is its recognition of the cultural diversity and national identity imprint of the Vietnamese community in Australia.

Representatives of the Council said that Marrickville is home to one of the three largest Vietnamese communities in Sydney. The Vietnamese community here has long been a significant part of the local identity, sharing its cuisine and culture with the wider community.

Inner West Council first introduced the idea of naming “Little Vietnam” at a public poll of Vietnamese residents in the Marrickville area from April 19 to May 17, 2021. The results showed that 65% of respondents supported the name “Little Vietnam.”

In July 2021, the City Council approved the name “Little Vietnam” and submitted it to the New South Wales Geographical Names Committee.

In April of this year, the name “Little Vietnam” was approved.

The Vietnamese community in Australia in general and in Marrickville in particular warmly welcomed the approval.

Previously, an area in Strathfield was named “Little Korean,” or an area located south of central Sydney, between Central Station and Darling Harbour was named “China Town”.

An area of Inner West City Council,  part of Marrickville Road, has been named “Little Greece”./.

Vietnam, Jordan seek ways to bolster cooperation

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu paid a visit to Jordan from December 7-8 to consolidate and foster cooperation between Vietnam and the Middle East nation.

While in Jordan, the Deputy FM held talks with Secretary General of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Leena Al-Hadid, and had working sessions with Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply Dana Al-Zoubi and Secretary General of the Ministry of Investment Zaher Al-Qatarneh.

At the meetings, the two sides noted with pleasure the positive development of the bilateral ties.

Hieu spoke highly of the phone talks between the two foreign ministers last June and thanked Jordan for its timely support to Vietnamese victims in the toxic gas leak at Aqaba port in the month, suggesting the Jordanian Government continue creating conditions for Vietnamese citizens to live and work in the country.

The two sides said despite global economic challenges, two-way trade still reached 178 million USD last year, up 18% from 2020.

However, they noted, the result has yet to match the potential of the two economies that are supplementary to each other and still have ample room to grow further.

Welcoming Hieu’s visit, Al-Hadid stressed that Jordan attaches importance and wishes to enhance the friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.

The host and guest agreed on measures to raise the efficiency of the bilateral collaboration in the time ahead, such as promoting all-level delegation exchange and people-to-people diplomacy, stepping up cooperation, information sharing and coordination between ministries and agencies, encouraging businesses to enhance trade and investment links, and considering the possibility of signing a number of cooperation agreements to perfect the legal framework for the bilateral ties.

Vietnam suggested Jordan share its experience with and help the Southeast Asian nation in the Halal industry, and forge tourism cooperation.

The officials expressed their belief that on the basis of the good friendship, cooperation and potential, the Vietnam-Jordan relationship will grow stronger in the time ahead.

They used this occasion to exchange views on some regional and international of shared concern.

Reviving investors’ confidence key to restoring bond market health: experts

While it is urgent to tackle the liquidity problem, a fundamental solution is regaining investors’ confidence and stabilising the corporate bond market, experts said.

The bond market is expected to become a main source of funding for companies in the long term, easing the pressure on banks.

But an array of scandals involving issuances by property developers such as Tan Hoang Minh, Van Thinh Phat and VKC Holdings has eroded investors’ faith.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate and punish property and bond frauds.

Nguyen Tu Anh, director of the general economic affairs department under the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, said the market has ample room for improvement.

It is a flexible capital channel that allows enterprises to raise funds without causing any dilution in ownership, he pointed out.

Between 2017 and 2021, the bond market grew at 46% annually, indicating the huge demand, he added.

Nguyen The Minh, director of analysis at Yuanta Securities, said there are three main channels for enterprises for mobilising capital: bonds, equity and loans.

“So far this year all these have been tied up.”

Le Xuan Nghia, a member of the National Financial and Monetary Policy Advisory Council, said the bond market would continue to face hurdles because of the lack of investors’ confidence.

Le Hoang Chau, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association, said many real estate companies are also struggling with lack of liquidity and might have to make painful decisions to survive.

Many property developers are scaling down their business as can be seen by investment and construction delays, he said.

They have stopped embarking on new projects, issuing bonds and making IPOs, he added.

Huge pressure

A huge amount of maturing corporate bonds due for payment from now through 2024 is putting great pressure on issuers, who are mostly property businesses.

According to a report by credit rating agency FiinGroup, the 20 biggest bond issuers are facing liquidity problems since they cannot issue afresh but have to redeem maturing bonds.

The companies are all under great liquidity pressure over the next 12 months due to weak cash flows amid high interest rates, it said.

More than 35 trillion VND worth of bonds issued by property companies, mainly unlisted, will mature in 2022 and over 61 trillion VND in 2023.

Recommendations

Expert Le Duy Binh said it is vital to provide sufficient and transparent information to restore investors’ confidence.

Binh said it is necessary for the Government to intervene and resolve the difficulties faced by the corporate bond market, warning the banking system would otherwise be affected.

Bui Van Huy, director of DSC Securities Corporation’s HCM City branch, said investors should carefully evaluate the type of bonds they are holding before making a decision to redeem them prematurely.

The Government should allow commercial banks to participate in the purchase of bonds before maturity and treat them as a special form of credit, he said.

He also proposed offering preferential credit to key manufacturing industries and fields to help them tide over the current difficulties.

At an urgent meeting with securities companies and bond issuers, Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc ordered the bond issuers to consider selling assets to pay off their debts to investors.

“Bond issuers must maintain their credibility with investors whatever it takes.”

Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi warned that bond issuers found committing wrongdoing would be severely penalised, stressing that the legitimate interests of investors would be protected under all circumstances.

Speaking at a recent meeting, PM Pham Minh Chinh stressed the Government’s determination to reform the bond, real estate and securities markets.

He also promised severe penalties for violations and assured that the rights and interests of people and businesses would be protected.

The Government has already set up three working teams for liquidity and currency, the property market and corporate bonds to carry out reforms./.
