MEDELLÍN, Colombia, Dec. 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — BITPOINT Latam, with its origins from JFSA-licensed BITPOINT Japan, launched Japanese Weeks for its crypto users in Latin America, a period of education and commercial activities aimed at promoting the use, trading, and development of new cryptocurrency-based products in Latin America.

According to the latest Chainalysis’ Global Adoption report, Latin America is one of the fastest-growing regions in terms of crypto adoption. Remittances, Investment and hedging from inflation and local currencies devaluations are driving crypto adoption in the region. Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and Ecuador are the countries with the highest use of crypto in Latin America.

“Our Japanese Weeks are aimed to build the necessary knowledge and crypto culture for the development of the industry in Latin America. The adoption is evolving fast because Bitcoin and other crypto assets have the fundamentals to help people to hedge from the structural failures of the archaic Latin America’s financial system. It is time to build a brand new way of banking for emerging markets and Latin America is the perfect scenario for that,” said Julian Geovo, Operations Director of BITPOINT for Latin America.

BITPOINT’s Japanese Weeks will run from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31.

BITPOINT landed in Panama in 2018 and started its regional expansion in Latin America. BITPOINT Latam is currently the most widespread cryptocurrency exchange in the region, with active operations in Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay.

“We are proud of our Japanese heritage. The strong operational know-how and compliance policies have helped us to become the crypto exchange with the largest presence in Latin America. We are currently working with local regulators to make crypto safe for users and transparent for authorities in this side of the world, too. We thank our Japanese partners BITPOINT and its Tokyo stock exchange listed mother company, Remixpoint Inc, including distinguished directors Genki Oda, Yoshihiko Takahashi and Yuji Nakagomi for all their support,” added Geovo.

Vietnam – Third largest mango exporter to RoK

Vietnam exported 1,700 tonnes of mango to the Republic of Korea (RoK) for 7.4 million USD over the past 11 months of 2022, up 19% in volume and 25% in value year-on-year, according to the Agency for Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

These figures helped Vietnam become the third largest mango supplier for the RoK in the period, the agency said, adding that the average export price of Vietnamese mangoes hit over 4,230 USD per tonne, 5% higher than that of the same period in 2021.

The agency also cited statistics from the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) as saying that this country’s mango import in the 11-month period reached 22,000 tonnes, worth 95.3 million USD, marking yearly rises of 4% in volume and 8% in value.

Thailand and Peru were the two largest mango suppliers for the RoK in the period, accounting for 81.2% of this country’s total mango imports.

According to the department, Korea is a market with a high demand for fresh fruit. Each year, the market imports over 1.6 billion USD worth of fresh fruit and this number has been growing significantly.

However, Vietnam’s fresh fruit now makes up a very modest market share in the RoK. Therefore, there remains room for Vietnamese firms to foster their exports of fresh fruits, typically mangoes to this market.

In order to promote exports to this market, trade experts recommend that businesses needed to improve their competitiveness and product quality. This was the core element to meet the increasingly strict requirements of the Korean market.

In addition, enterprises were advised to develop appropriate production and business plans, actively operate according to the market mechanism and have solutions to participate in the production chain and distribution network of Korean enterprises. That would help businesses take advantage of their strengths, their brand, as well as their development experience in the market./.

Laos lifts all COVID-19 prevention rules

The Lao Government has decided to completely lift the requirement on presenting COVID-19 vaccination certificates and rapid test results within 48 hours upon arrival in the country.

Laos announced in May this year that it reopened the country to Lao citizens, foreigners and stateless persons. Citizens from countries with a visa waiver agreement with Laos could enter without a visa. However, Lao citizens, foreigners and stateless persons aged 12 years or older who have not yet had a certificate of full-dose vaccination are still required to show COVID-19 rapid test results issued within 48 hours prior to their departure.

The decision reflects that the Lao Government has well controlled the pandemic and also aims to promote its economy in the post-COVID-19 period, with tourism seen as a spearhead economic sector./.

Blockbuster director launches film project on Vietnamese history

Blockbuster director Phan Gia Nhat Linh of HCM City has launched his latest project about Vietnamese history under the Tran Dynasty.

The film, Dai Chien Bach Dang Giang (The Battle on Bach Dang River), will feature the Bach Dang Battle of 938 on the Bach Dang River between Vietnamese troops, led by Ngo Quyen, and Chinese invaders under the Han Dynasty.

Quyen asked his soldiers to plant iron-headed wooden stakes, invisible during high tides, into the riverbed.

After Quyen launched a counter-attack at low tide, the enemy’s large boats ran aground as they were pierced by the long stakes.

The victory of Bach Dang ended the 1,000-year Chinese domination, opening a period of Vietnam’s independence and sovereignty.

The first sketches of the film were introduced to the public on December 19, attracting many movie fans and critics.

Director Linh and his staff from AIOI Studios are working on pre-production of the film. They have also invited investors to be involved in their project.

“My new film, Bac Dang Giang, is part of the long-term project on making historical films featuring Vietnamese history launched by AIOI Studios and their partners,” said Linh. “I wanted to capture Vietnamese national heroes on film. I hope youngsters will improve their knowledge of the country’s history through my art.”

Linh began his career as a film critic. He got a scholarship in film offered by the Ford Foundation at the University of Southern California in 2006.

He worked with talented film directors, such as Vietnamese-American Charlie Nguyen and Nguyen Quang Dung, before releasing his first comedy film, Em La Ba Noi Cua Anh (Sweet 20), in 2015.

His second film, Co Gai Den Tu Hom Qua (The Girl from Yesterday), a romantic production, was released in 2017.

Both films were blockbusters, earning more than 20 billion VND (850,000 USD) each in just the first week of release.

In 2020, he worked on the 1 million USD comedy entitled Trang Ti (Child Master) featuring Vietnamese folk stories.

Linh’s latest film, Em va Trinh (You and Trinh), a production on the late famous songwriter Trinh Cong Son, earned 100 billion VND (4.1 million USD) in ticket sales after five weeks of its release starting on June./.

This year, the Ministry of Education and Training sent seven delegations with 38 students to International Olympiads. As a result, all of them won prizes, including 13 golds, 12 silvers, eight bronzes and five consolation prizes.

Vietnam retained its position among 10 best-performing countries in these competitions. The country also has seven international sci-tech projects this year and two of them won special prizes awarded by sci-tech organisations and businesses.

During the 2017-2021 period, Vietnam won 57 gold medals, over doubling the figure during 2012-2016.

Speaking at the event, President Phuc affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State always consider education a top policy and prioritise resources to educational development.

He asked the Government, ministries, agencies and localities to continue fine-tuning mechanisms and policies and take specific actions to discover and nurture talents, motivating young and outstanding citizens to devote to the nation.

The President wished that lecturers would step up innovation in education and scientific research and set bright examples for students to follow, and urged students to improve ethics and equip themselves with necessary skills to become outstanding, responsible and global citizens, contributing to national development.

According to the State leader, Vietnam’s economic growth model must gradually shift from reliance on ordinary investment and labour to innovation and high labour productivity.

Technological advances like Internet-of-Things, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, smart robotics, 3D printing, mobile supercomputer and many others are bringing along both opportunities and challenges. Therefore, young generations must catch up with new trends to help Vietnam narrow the development gap with developed nations, he said./.
