Vietnamese youths urged to preserve national cultural values

 

First Secretary of the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Bui Quang Huy has suggested building on the role of Vietnamese youth in preserving and upholding national cultural values in the current period.

 

Speaking at the Culture Workshop 2022 held in the northern province of Bac Ninh on December 17, Huy said in the near future, the HCYU chapters at all levels will raise young people’s awareness of patriotism, national pride, tradition and history, their sense of responsibility for the society, respect to laws and national cultural identity.

 

They will strive to build healthy living and learning environment to create a driving force for youths to contribute to sustainable national development, he said, adding that they will also facilitate the connectivity between businesses and HCYU members and youths in the development of cultural industry.

 

He committed to holding training courses to improve young people’s skills of using social media and information technology, thus fighting distorted and wrongful allegations, fake and toxic news on digital platforms in combination with monitoring and dealing with culturally deviant behaviours among HCYU members and youths.

 

Huy suggested the Party, State and competent agencies build policies, laws and mechanisms to issue cultural institutions that suit socialist-oriented market economy and global integration, especially on cyber environment.

 

Breakthrough policies to nurture and honour talents, especially young ones, also need to be built, he said, adding that start-ups and innovation in culture as well as legal framework for digital transformation and digital capacity improvement for people and youths in particular are also essential.

 

The Party and State should come up with more drastic policies to develop cultural industries and entrepreneurship, in particular young entrepreneurs interested in traditional culture for youths, he said./.

Da Lat flower space, int’l flower expo open

The People’s Committee of Da Lat city, the Central Highlands of Lam Dong, opened a flower space around Xuan Huong Lake and the 2022 international flower Exhibition on December 17.

 

They are part of the ongoing Da Lat Flower Festival, said Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of the Da Lat People’s Committee.

 

The flower space around Xuan Huong Lake shows more than 500,000 pots of nearly 100 kinds of flowers.

 

Meanwhile, on the display of the 2022 international flower exhibition are works on flowers, ornamental and bonsai trees.

 

The flower space and flower exhibition will last until January 3, 2023./.

Coach Park announces 25 players for AFF Cup

Coach Park Hang-seo has announced his squad of 25 players for the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022.

 

The coach from the Republic of Korea has put his faith in three new faces – Khuat Van Khagn, Hai Huy and Chau Ngoc Quang.

 

The goalkeepers in the team are Dang Van Lam, Tran Nguyen Manh, and Nguyen Toan.

 

The Vietnamese squad also features many popular names who are crucial to the team in both defence and attack. Familiar faces in the line-up include Bui Tien Dung, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Que Ngoc Hai, Nguyen Quang Hai and Phan Van Duc.

 

Strikers Nguyen Van Quyet, Pham Tuan Hai, Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Tien Linh are expected to shine to help the Vietnamese team gain their goal of winning the title.

 

Four players who have missed out on selection are goalkeeper Nguyen Van Hoang, defender Nguyen Thanh Nhan, striker Ha Duc Chinh and Pham Dinh Duy.

 

Previously, midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang asked to withdraw from the team to treat his herniated disc.

 

The AFF Cup 2022 is scheduled to take place from December 23 to January 16.

 

Vietnam are in Group B alongside Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar, and Singapore. They will play away against Laos on December 21 and Singapore on December 30. They will face Malaysia and Myanmar at their home grounds on December 27 and January 3, 2023, respectively.

 

The Vietnamese team is scheduled to take a flight from Hanoi to Vientiane, Laos, on December 17 to prepare for the opening match.

 

Vietnam have three officials to work at the tournament, supervisor Dang Thanh Ha, referee Ngo Duy Lan and assistant referee Nguyen Trung Hau.

 

Vietnam won the regional football tournament in 2008 and 2018./.

Prime Minister chairs fifth Vietnam Economic Forum

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the plenary session of the fifth Vietnam Economic Forum in Hanoi on December 17.

 

The event was held both online and in-person formats, with over 1,000 delegates taking part.

 

Before the plenary session, four thematic discussions were co-chaired by leaders of ministries and agencies, featuring the topics of creating development space and new economic growth drivers, healthy financial and real estate markets for rapid and sustainable economic development, removing bottlenecks in public investment and capital for enterprises, ensuring social welfare and employment in combination with 2023 economic development.

 

Speaking at the session, Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh said the event will point out what Vietnam needs to do to maintain macro-economic stability and ensure major balances of the economy; identify the right opportunities, difficulties and challenges; suggest response policies and guidelines to step up industrialistion and modernisation, and fulfilling national development goals till 2030 with a vision to 2045 set in the Resolution adopted by the 13th National Party Congress and other resolutions.

 

Reporting Vietnam’s economic performance 2022 and orientations to 2023, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said with COVID-19 under control, Vietnam’s inflation stood at 3.02% in January-November and is below 4% for the whole of this year. Industrial production went up 8.6% during the period while the total retail of goods and services rose by 20.5%. The total number of newly-established firms surged by 33.2% annually to 195,000. The foreign direct investment hit a five-year record to 19.68 billion USD, up 15.1%.

 

Apart from achievements in social welfare, anti-corruption, national defence-security, external affairs and global integration, delegates raised concern over inflation pressure due to external uncertainties, low labour productivity, slow disbursement of public investment capital; risks in securities, corporate bond and real estate markets; high input costs and shortage of materials, among others.

 

Dung said next year, Vietnam will encounter difficulties and challenges in meeting development goals amid fluctuations in the world. Hence, it requires not only the unanimity, efforts and determination of the entire political system, people and businesses to perform tasks but also support from the global community, governments, international organisations, scientists and experts at home and abroad./.

COVID-19: National caseload rises to 11,522,750

The national COVID-19 caseload rose to 11,522,750 with 319 new cases recorded on December 17, according to the Ministry of Health.

 

With 95 patients given the all-clear during the day, the number of recoveries rose to 10,610,217.

 

Meanwhile, there are 40 patients needing breathing support.

 

No death from COVID-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities stand at 43,179.

 

With 44,881 doses administered on December 16, the total number of doses of COVID-19 vaccines injected rose to 265,160,328./.

Vietnam ready to mobilise all resources for national strategy on biodiversity

Vietnam will further actively be part of efforts for the global biodiversity preservation and is willing to mobilise all resources for effectively implement its national strategy on the matter, affirmed Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Vo Tuan Nhan.

 

Addressing a high-level session of the ongoing 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Canada, the Deputy Minister called on member countries to take similar actions towards building a prosperous and healthy planet.

 

As an active member of the convention, Vietnam recommended quickly establishing mechanisms to support its implementation, including new ones for finance, resource mobilisation, capacity building, technique, scientific cooperation and technology transfer.

 

It is also necessary to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders to successfully realise the ambitious goals of the global biodiversity framework, creating opportunities for each person, organisation, and country to maximise their roles and responsibilities in realising Vision 2050 on living in harmony with nature.

 

Vietnam joined the CBD in 1994. In January 2022, the Vietnamese Government approved a national strategy on biodiversity to 2030 with a vision to 2050.

 

COP 15 takes place from December 7 to 19 in Montreal, with governments from around the world coming together to agree on a new set of goals to guide global action through 2030 to halt and reverse nature loss./.
