Ha Nam province expects to boost cooperative ties in green production with Denmark

The northern province of Ha Nam expects to welcome more businesses and investors from Denmark who are interested in surveying the local investment environment, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Xuan Duong has said.

He made the statement at a meeting on November 2 between Danish and local businesses to discuss green transformation and efficient use of energy as part of a working visit to the northern province by Danish Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth.

Duong underlined that Denmark and Vietnam have close and long-term friendship and cooperation, especially in the field of energy. Since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1972, the bilateral relationship has been increasingly developed in many fields, bringing many practical results, meeting the aspirations and interests of the two countries’ people, he said, adding that several businesses in Ha Nam province are using modern technologies of large Danish corporations.

The official said he hoped enterprises of the province and Denmark would continue exchanges and learn from each other to explore cooperation opportunities in the future.

Participants at the event also discussed and exchanged ideas for industries on green transformation as well as economical and efficient use of energy in business activities in the coming years; Danish solutions and Vietnam’s energy potential; and the province’s preferential policies in the green transformation of enterprises.

At a earlier reception for Danish Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Dinh Thi Lua, briefed the guest on the province’s potential and advantages for tourism and industry development.

She said the province is particularly interested in green production and using renewable energy towards green transformation.

Elizabeth said the Danish Royal Family has time-honoured relations with Vietnam. The ongoing visit to Vietnam by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth does not only deepen the existing relationship but also further promotes bilateral cooperation, opening up new development steps in the Denmark-Vietnam relations, she added./.

New opportunities for banana exports to China: Minister

The Protocol recently signed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the General Administration of Customs China (GACC) will bring opportunities and benefits to Vietnamese banana growers and exporters, said MARD Minister Le Minh Hoan.

Accordingly, the Protocol on plant quarantine for Vietnamese fresh bananas exported to China is one of the 13 agreements inked by the Vietnamese and Chinese ministries, agencies and localities during Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China from October 30 to November 1.

Hoan said the Protocol will ensure the official export of bananas at stable prices, facilitate customs clearance at border gates to ease overload of farm produce and banana products there while improving the prestige of Vietnamese bananas.

Under the document, all banana farming areas and packaging facilities for export to China must be approved by both the MARD and the GACC. Banana farms must follow Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards while packaging facilities are required to build a origin tracing system to ensure food safety standards before export to China.

Vietnamese fresh bananas will be exported via all Chinese border gates approved by the GACC, Hoan said.

He added that the MARD will raise awareness of farmers and packaging facilities about requirements in the Protocol.

As of 2019, Vietnam was home to 129,550ha of bananas, nearly 35,300ha of which was in the Mekong Delta with an output of over 478,800 tonnes.

Over 430,000 tonnes of Vietnamese bananas under quarantine were shipped to China in 2020. The volume increased to 574,000 tonnes in 2021 and 591,000 tonnes in the first nine months of this year./.

Indonesia, Japan look to promote cooperation in geothermal development

Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif said on November 2 that Japan’s Inpex Corporation is looking for investment opportunities to develop geothermal projects in the Southeast Asian country.

This is good news for Indonesia in the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, he said, adding that the Japanese energy company with good capital and technology will support the nation to accelerate the energy diversification process.

According to Arifin, the Indonesian government is committed to encouraging the use of renewable energy sources in all sectors, causing agencies in the government apparatus to make more efforts to find optimal solutions to diversify energy sources, with priority given to renewable energy.

Meanwhile, Director General of the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMDM), Dadan Kusdiana, said to promote cooperation with the Japanese energy company, the ministry is expected to hold a meeting with the Inpex Corporation in December to discuss the details of the cooperation plan.

In the context of increasingly exhausted fossil energy sources and political instability in the region and the world, a plan to diversify energy sources is necessary and reasonable, he said./.

As COP27 approaches, Schneider Electric urges collective, systemic action for a fair energy transition

  • Schneider executives invited to advise on ways to solve energy and climate crises
  • Schneider Electric Foundation on the ground to support initiatives to get young people more involved in climate action

Rueil-Malmaison (France), November 1, 2022Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, today called for accelerated action for an equitable transition to net-zero, driven by collaborative action across the private and public sectors.

The company’s call to action comes in the run-up to the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt on 6-18 November, which Gwenaelle Avice-Huet, Schneider Electric’s Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer, and other senior Schneider Electric executives will attend.

Described by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as a “litmus test” of how serious governments are about the growing toll that climate change is taking on the most vulnerable countries, the event takes place against a backdrop of mounting climate-linked disasters and a painfully disruptive global energy crisis.

During COP27, Schneider Electric executives will participate in a series of panels and meet decisionmakers across business, government and civil society, to help advise on of the sometimes still-underappreciated solutions and approaches that can help deliver urgently needed carbon-reduction action. In-depth analysis from the Schneider Electric Sustainability Research Institute, for example, is helping to underline the big role that the demand-side of the energy equation, and the combination of electrification and digitization can play in accelerating the energy transition.

Also at COP27, the Schneider Electric Foundation is partnering with various NGOs – including Art of Change 21 – to get young people actively involved in combating the climate crisis. In this spirit, Schneider Electric will also be announcing its partnership with RISE – Our World Heritage, a documentary and educational project to promote the impactful combination of technology and local action for sustainability.

A widely-recognized champion of decarbonization and sustainability, Schneider Electric is a big believer in the need for companies to go beyond just “doing business”, and to work with multiple stakeholders and partner to generate a positive long-term impact on the planet and society.

Schneider’s Access to Energy program, for example, is particularly relevant at the COP27 setting, as it brings affordable renewable power solutions and education to rural and remote communities in emerging countries in Africa and elsewhere.

“The climate and energy crises, and the often-unequal economic pain they’re inflicting around the globe, are far too big for any of us to tackle alone, said Gwenaelle Avice-Huet, Schneider Electric’s Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer. “What we need is faster action, across all fronts, and across all facets and layers of business, government and society – a systemic and collaborative approach that spans both big-picture global initiatives and on-the-ground local action.”
